Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
Wakakirri Dance-Story Festival
We are thrilled to celebrate our amazing dance and storytelling group for their outstanding achievement at the Wakakirri Story-Dance Festival National Finals! Their inspiring performance told the story of Nedd Brockmann, the remarkable Australian ultramarathon runner who ran from Perth to Bondi, raising funds and awareness for charity along the way. Congratulations on receiving a National Story-Dance Award at this year’s Wakakirri Festival! An incredible accomplishment!
Multicultural Day
What a vibrant celebration of the diverse cultures and traditions that make up our community. Students, staff, and families come together to share food, music, dance, and stories from around the world. It’s a special opportunity to learn about different customs, appreciate unique perspectives, and build a deeper sense of respect and unity among everyone. Through this event, we embrace our diversity and celebrate the richness it brings to our school.
Book Week
An exciting time dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading and storytelling. Throughout the week, students participate in fun activities like author visits, book fairs, themed dress-up days, and creative writing workshops. It’s a fantastic opportunity to inspire a love of books, spark imagination, and encourage students to explore new worlds through literature.
P&C Events
Our school’s P&C hosts a variety of fun and engaging events throughout the year to bring the community together and support our students. Highlights include the energetic Fun Run, the lively Trivia Night, the exciting School Disco, and the memorable Twilight Concert. We also celebrate special occasions with heartfelt Mother’s Day and Father’s Day breakfasts and gift stalls, offering a chance for families to connect and create lasting memories. These events not only raise funds for the school but also strengthen the sense of community among students, families, and staff.
Learn to Swim
Our school’s Learn to Swim Scheme is a two-week program that begins for students in Year 2, designed to build confidence and essential water safety skills. Through structured lessons and supportive instruction, students gradually develop their swimming abilities in a safe and encouraging environment. This program not only helps children become stronger swimmers but also teaches important water safety practices, ensuring they feel secure and prepared around water. It’s an invaluable part of our commitment to student well-being and lifelong skills.
School Camps
Our school camps offer students in Years 5 and 6 unforgettable experiences that combine learning, adventure, and teamwork. We organise trips to exciting destinations like Canberra and Milson Island, where students engage in educational activities, outdoor challenges, and opportunities to build lasting friendships. These camps help develop independence, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom, making them an important part of our school’s curriculum and community spirit.
"Sending a huge congratulations for the National Award that you and our Wakakirri kids received recently. What an incredible and well-deserved achievement. Thank you so much for all the time spent choreographing, rehearsing, and organising costumes. We feel very fortunate that Wakakirri exists as an opportunity for students to have that exposure to dance." — a parent of Hornsby South Public School
