Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

PSSA

Hornsby South participates in the Hornsby Primary School Sports Association interschool-competition.

Students from 3-6 are selected to represent the school in winter and summer PSSA competitions. They are chosen based on their sporting talent and skills as well as their ability to work as part of a team. Weekly training opportunities are organised for all selected students to attend.

Fit Futures

All students participate in weekly Fit Futures lessons. Fit Future instructors provide an exciting sport program to keep students captivated and enthralled for the whole lesson. Fit Futures use inclusive games and fun activities to ensure all students are active for the whole class. All classes are taught in a pressure free environment, through the philosophy of learning through play.
