Band

At Hornsby South Public School, we currently have 3 bands, the Training Band for students new to a musical instrument, the Concert Band for students with a minimum of 1 years’ experience and our Performance Band for students with 2 years+ experience.  Students wishing to participate must be in year 3 or above.

The band program is overseen by the P&C Committee and coordinated by a volunteer sub-committee.  The band committee offers a selection of instruments for hire with priority given to training band members.  The committee works in partnership with Key Music Australia – a local musical tuition service who provide us with band conductors and music lessons – both group and private. Key Music Australia offer lessons, conducted throughout the week, either before or after school.  Band students are expected to attend Band Camp. This is a weekend event staged midway through the year that focuses on intensive musical training but also lots of fun and games!

Throughout the year, all bands undertake a number of performances.  These include but are not limited to school assemblies and festivities, concerts for community preschools and local schools, community events and music festivals such as the NSSWE Spring Music Festival and the NSW School Band Festival.
